Elizabeth “Betty” Mary (Kowitz) Chirhart, age 97, St. Cloud, MN, died Thursday, March 30, 2017 at St. Benedict’s Senior Community Therapy Suites, Sartell, MN.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at 10:30 AM at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, St. Cloud, MN. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 4, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:30 PM at Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery, Sartell, MN.
Betty was born August 4, 1919 in Rice, MN to Albert and Elizabeth (Roszeck) Sufka. She married Clarence Kowitz on November 28, 1942 in Rice, MN. He died May 23, 1990. Betty was united in marriage to Gerald Chirhart on June 28, 1993 in Sartell, MN. He died May 4, 2007. Betty was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Eagles Aerie #622 Auxiliary and St. Cloud VFW Post #428 Auxiliary. She enjoyed working in the garden and flowerbeds, crocheting (especially butterflies), baking, dancing, and playing cards with her many friends.
Survivors include son, James Kowitz of St. Cloud, MN; daughter, Judy (Lonnie) Cagle of St. Cloud, MN; stepsons, Gerald (Dianna) Kowitz of Phoenix, AZ; William (Barbara) Chirhart of St. Cloud, MN; sister, Emma Rassier of Sartell, MN; 4 grandchildren Erik (Traci) Cagle, Troy (Cori) Cagle, James (Stacy) Kowitz and Joni (Mike) Pettice; 10 great grandchildren Dane, Kashus, Attikus, Evelyn, Alana, Katrina, Kirsten, Julian, Joanna and Jacob; 7 step grandchildren and 15 step great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Clarence Kowitz and Gerald Chirhart, brothers and sisters, Joseph, John, Blaise, Nick, Albert, Edwin, Catherine, Hedwig, Lawrence Andrew and Raymond.
Pallbearers will be Erik Cagle, Troy Cagle, Joni Pettice, Hank Fruth, Randy Smelter and Chad Kowitz.
