     Michael “Mike” Joseph Nierengarten, age 92, St. Joseph, MN, died Thursday, March 23, 2017 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, St. Cloud, MN.
     Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Joseph, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, St. Joseph, MN. Funeral arrangements by Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN.
     Mike was born November 18, 1924 in St. Paul, MN to Florence Nierengarten. He served in the United States Army during World War II. Mike graduated with a BS Degree in Accounting from St. Cloud State University. He married Eileen Sinclair on November 12, 1960 at St. Martin Catholic Church, St. Martin, MN. Together they made their home in St. Joseph, MN. Mike was employed by the United States Social Security Administration. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Joseph American Legion, St. Joseph Cemetery Board and the WWII/Korean War Group at the St. Cloud VA Medical Center. Mike was a former member of St. Joseph VFW and Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed fishing, cross country skiing, vegetable and flower gardening (especially raspberries), day trips with his family, and meals at Kay’s Kitchen with Jim.
     Survivors include his children, Bob (Pam) Nierengarten, Brenda Kunkel, and Jim Nierengarten, and, five grandchildren, Jenny (Matt) Mrnak, Holly (Steve) Halford, Heather (Charles) Enselein, Ashley (Todd) Schlangen and Jay (Sara) Nierengarten, and six great grandchildren.
     He was preceded in death by his mother, wife, Eileen, and grandson Zach Kunkel on December 20, 2014.
     The family would like to extend a special thank you to the entire staff of Building 50 1st Floor at the St. Cloud VA Medical Center for the kind and loving care they have provided Mike the last six years.
