     John George Schmidt, age 85, St. Cloud, MN died Monday, October 24, 2016 at the St. Cloud Veterans Administration Medical Center.
     Funeral services will be Friday, October 28, 2016 at 3:00 PM at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, St. Cloud, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Burial will be in North Star Cemetery, St. Cloud, MN. Funeral arrangements were made by Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN.
     John was born October 2, 1931 in Mankato, MN to George and Selma (Tietz) Schmidt. John served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He married Deloris “Dee” E. Anderson on September 28, 1986 in St. Cloud, MN. John was employed by Honeywell for 9 years, where he worked on the Mercury Space Program, and then was employed by the Minnesota Department of Transportation as a traffic technician for 24 years retiring in 1996. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, St. Cloud Eastside VFW Post #4847 and the Janesville, MN American Legion. John enjoyed outdoor activities including fishing, hunting, camping and traveling on numerous trips and cruises with Dee.
     Survivors include sisters, Jean Miller of Waseca, MN; and Barbara (Al) Deck of Hillsboro, OR; sister-in-law, Mary Jo (Randy) Patton of Spicer, MN; stepsons, Darrell (Barbara) Anderson of Plainsview, MN; Russell (Kimberly) Anderson of Lakeville, MN; Kendell (Jennifer) Anderson of Columbia City, OR; Wendell (Stephanie) Andersson of St. Paul, MN; Michael (Cindy) Anderson of Iowa City, IA; stepdaughters, Laurell (Rick) Wacklawik of Lake Stevens, WA; Sherill (Randy) Miller of Park Rapids, MN; nieces and nephews, Brad (Cheryl) Schmidt; Paul (Bev) Schmidt, Jeff (Berit) Schmidt; Mark (Sue) Schmidt; Nancy (Jeff) Schuller; Meighan (Joe) Beausoleil; Doug (Vicky) Miller; Lisa (Craig) Harvey; Jennifer Jennings, Sarah (Mike) Leutweiler; and Susan Shipley; 17 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.
     He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Deloris “Dee” Schmidt on July 17, 2004, brother, Henry “Hank” Schmidt, and niece, Becky Miller.
