Richard “Dick” Charles Megarry, age 85, St. Cloud, MN, died Sunday, September 4, 2016 at the St. Cloud Hospital.
Funeral services will be Saturday, September 10, 2016 at 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church, Sartell, MN. Visitation will be Friday, September 9, 2016 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN and one hour prior to the service at church on Saturday. Burial will be in North Star Cemetery, St. Cloud, MN.
Richard was born October 22, 1930 in Lake City, MN to Charles S. and Bess M. (Phillips) Megarry. He grew up in Aitkin, MN and moved to St. Cloud, MN in 1945. Richard graduated from St. Cloud Technical High School and the University of Minnesota. He served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954. On May 4, 1957 Richard was united in marriage to Mary Beth Ekberg in Minneapolis, MN. Richard worked in the family business, Megarry Brothers Construction Company and then became a financial advisor for IDS/American Express. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Kiwanis Club of St. Cloud, North Star Lodge #23 AF & AM; St. Cloud Chapter #10, RAM, Nazarene Commandery #24, and Shriners International (Zuhrah Shriners). Richard was also a member of St. Cloud Area YMCA serving as President of the board during the early years of its formation. He also served on other various boards in the St. Cloud area.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Beth Megarry of St. Cloud, MN; sons, Dirk (Bonnie) Megarry of Prior Lake, MN; Brent Megarry of Tome, NM; Ross (Renae) Megarry of Lakeville, MN; and four grandchildren, Ali, JR, Erin and Lizzie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Ronald Megarry, and sisters, Jean Eckberg and Patricia Petraborg. |
