     Jack G. Carlson, age 86, Sartell, MN, formerly of St. Cloud and Glenwood, MN, died Wednesday, April 13, 2005 at Country Manor Care Center, Sartell, MN.
     Funeral services will be Saturday, April 16, 2005 at 9:30 AM at Grace United Methodist Church, St. Cloud, MN. Visitation will be Friday, April 15, 2005 from 4 to 8 PM at Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Masonic service will be at 6:30 PM Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Glenwood, MN.
     Jack Carlson was born April 27, 1918 on a farm near Lake Benton, Lincoln Co., MN to Henry F. and Esther V. (Protexter) Carlson. In 1933 the family moved to a farm near Lake Wilson, MN. Jack was a 1936 graduate of Lake Wilson High School. He earned his BS degree from Mankato State Teachers College in 1941 and his MS degree from the Univ. of Minnesota in 1948. He married Ethel G. Haakenson on July 13, 1941 at the Little Brown Church in the Vale, Nashua, IA. Jack taught school in Maynard, MN from 1941 to 1942; at the Army Air Force Technical Training Command from 1942 to 1943; and Glenwood, MN from 1943 to 1944. Jack served in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1947. After being discharged from the Navy, Jack returned to Glenwood, MN and served as the high school principal from 1947 to 1965. In 1965 they moved to St. Cloud, MN where Jack was principal at South Junior High School until his retirement on July 1, 1980. On May 9, 2002, Jack entered Country Villa in Sartell.
     Jack was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, Minnesota Education Association, was vice president and executive secretary for the Central Minnesota Education Association; executive secretary of the Minnesota Association of Student Councils, St. Cloud American Legion #76, Glenwood American Legion Post # 3815, and Disabled American Veterans. He was also a member of North Star Masonic Lodge #23 AF & AM, St. Cloud, MN, a member and past master of Valley Masonic Lodge #174, Glenwood, MN, a member and past high priest of Royal Arch Masons, member and past commander of Commandery, member of Order of Eastern Star, member of Zurah Shrine of Minneapolis, MN and Roadrunners Club and Shrine of Corpus Christi, TX.
     Jack and his wife wintered in Texas and Florida and also enjoyed their cabin on Little Boy Lake in the summer. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, sports refereeing and numismatics.
    Survivors include his wife, Ethel Carlson of Sartell, MN; sons and daughters, Jack (Julianne) Carlson of Stitzer, WI; James (Kay) Carlson of Morris, MN; Mary (Dallas) Thompson of Glenwood, MN; Linda (Zach Neece) Carlson of Ganesville, FL; Alice (Robert) McGee of St. Cloud, MN; Robert (Mary Lenox) Carlson of Cheny, WA; 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
