    August 6, 1938 - March 31, 2005
    
     John “Jack” Frederick Zander III, age 66, St. Cloud, MN died Thursday, March 31, 2005 at his home surrounded by his family.
     Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 5, 2005 at 4:00 PM at Atonement Lutheran Church, St. Cloud, MN. Visitation will be Monday, April 4, 2005 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN and one-half hour prior to the services at the church on Tuesday. Prayer service will be 8:00 PM Monday at the funeral home.
     John Zander was born August 6, 1938 in Brainerd, MN to John F. & Hazel (Coenen) Zander. Jack married Phyllis Krueger in 1962. They later divorced. Jack was united in marriage to Marie Olson Hicks in 2001.
     Jack graduated from SCSU in 1963. He was a junior high school English teacher at South Jr. High for 33 years until his retirement in 1996. Jack also worked summers for many years in the SCSU library doing the University’s audio-visual equipment audit. Following his retirement, he was a test administrator for the U.S. government.
     He also enjoyed volunteering for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program at Madison School Library, the United Way, and many other organizations. Jack was a co-founder of the Men’s Card Club and Almost Annual Tennis Dinner.
     His hobbies included tennis, golf, bowling, reading, cooking, walking and photography. He and Marie traveled extensively, and enjoyed their cabin on North Long Lake. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and belonged to the American Legion Post #76.
     Survivors include his wife, Marie; sons, John of St. Louis Park, MN, Zander Villayne of Venice, CA; sisters, Mary (Darien) DeRocher of Brainerd, MN, Margaret Zander of Brainerd, MN; brother, James (Mary Ann) Zander of Ocean Springs, Mississippi.
     In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred. Memorials will be used to fund a yearly scholarship at Technical High School for a graduating senior with aspirations of becoming an English teacher.
     Pallbearers will be Jody and Pete Garberg, Jill and Scott Hollenkamp, Jeff and Cindy DeRocher, Jim DeRocher, Tom Monasmith and Michelle Zander.
