    MARJORIE “MIDGE” A. DEAN, 88
    St. Cloud
    June 12, 1927 - March 14, 2016

Funeral services will be Friday, March 18, 2016 at 10:30 AM at Discovery Church for Marjorie “Midge” A. Dean, age 88, who passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. Pastor Art Cotant will officiate. Visitation will take place Thursday, March 17, 2016 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
Midge was born June 12, 1927 in Minneapolis, MN to Lucas and Gertrude (Lindner) Abbas and grew up in Minneapolis. While working at Northwestern Bank after school, she was selected as Queen of the Minneapolis Banks for the Minneapolis Aquatennial. At this time she also met Kenneth Dean, son of Blanch and Perry Dean. They were married February 24, 1950.
Midge was an active volunteer in fundraising and special events for a number of organizations including: Hennepin Avenue Methodist Church, St. Barnabas Hospital, Methodist Hospital, Minnesota Family Council, The Woman’s Club of Minneapolis, Junior Achievement, the Governor’s Residence, and Hennepin County Library. Midge’s political career took off in 1978 when attending a political fundraiser for an unknown Republican candidate by the name of Dave Durenberger. During the evening she learned it was Dave’s birthday and proceeded to raise $7,000 in contributions from the people attending as a birthday gift for Dave. Shortly afterwards Midge received a call from Dave asking her to be his Finance Chairman. This led to her long and successful career in major donor fundraising for many well known Republican and conservative organizations, events, candidates and politicians.
In 1996 Bob Cummins asked Midge to help organize a group of conservative business executives. The club’s purpose is to financially support conservatives and help in their election. This group became known as the Freedom Club. Midge described her position as the Freedom Club Executive Director as her favorite of all fundraising positions. Midge and Ken also owned and operated the Sveden House, Bavarian Buffet, North Star Ski and Sport and Midge’s Boutique all of St. Cloud.
While Midge was gifted and successful at fundraising and special events, her first love was her husband, children and their families. She was a strong supporter in all their activities: skiing, tennis, music, gymnastics, camping, scouting and more. For years the family took ski trips to the Rocky Mountains.
Midge is survived by her husband, Ken; children, Diana (Ben) McBeth of Lake Wales, FL: Thomas (Becky) Dean of Eveleth, MN; Katherine (Dean) McCall of Superior, WI; and Timothy Dean of Rogers, MN; daughter-in-law, Linda Dean of Duluth, MN; ten grandchildren, Eli Dean, Luke Dean, Joshua (Amber) Dean, Sarah (Josiah) Ellis, Josiah Dean, Zachariah (Susanna) Dean, Abigail McCall, Keeley McCall, Austin Dean and Parker Dean; and one great grandson, Winston Dean.
Midge was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth, parents, Lucas and Gertrude, sisters, Ruth (Ivan) Hendricks, Gertrude (Oliver) Kamrud, brothers, James, Lucas, Paul and Robert Abbas.
Memorials are preferred to Discovery Church, St. Cloud Salvation Army or St. Cloud Y.M.C.A.
