Lorimer “Lorm” Richard Bjorklund, age 80, St. Cloud, MN died Wednesday, July 15, 2015 of pancreatic cancer at Quiet Oaks Hospice House, St. Augusta, MN.
Funeral services will be Monday, July 20, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Redeemer Lutheran Church, St. Cloud, MN. Visitation will be Sunday, July 19, 2015 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Sauk Rapids, MN.
Lorm was born February 11, 1935 in Harcourt, IA to Rudolph and Ellen (Larson) Bjorklund. He was baptized on May 12, 1935. He grew up in Cedar Falls, IA was confirmed April 10, 1949 and graduated from Teachers College High School in 1954. Lorm married Marilyn Ploog on June 3, 1956 at Grace Lutheran Church in DeWitt, IA. He received a BA from Iowa State Teachers College in 1958, MA from Mankato State College in 1967 and a Ph.D. from The Ohio State University in 1979.
Lorm’s first teaching position was in Iowa at Lake Mills High School. From 1958 to 1969, Lorm taught Industrial Arts at Swea City High School, Swea City, IA. From 1969 to 1996, he was a professor in Environmental and Technological Studies at St. Cloud State University. Lorm was a member of the MN Industrial Arts Association and the Society of Plastics Engineers. He also served on the board of the Lutheran Student Fellowship Organization at SCSU.
Lorm was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church serving as deacon, trustee, congregational president and other offices. He enjoyed many family road trips throughout the United States, fishing trips in the Walker, MN area, the BWCAW, Canada and Alaska. He also enjoyed boating, canoeing, woodcarving and spending winters in Casa Grande, AZ. His most enjoyable times always included his wife, family and friends.
Survivors include his loving wife, Marilyn, of 59 years; son, Kurt (Luanne) Bjorklund of Armstrong, IA; daughters, Brenda Bjorklund (Dale Dhein) of Richfield, MN; Terri (Carl) Guggenberger of Chippewa Falls, WI; Kelli (Jody) Schramel of Sartell, MN; and Kathi (Thomas) Krey of Richfield, MN. Lorm is also survived by 15 grandchildren, Tarah (Abhi) Sachdev, Laura and Bryan (Bethany) Bjorklund; Grant, Jack and Mick Dhein; Erika Guggenberger (Mark) Ray, Tyler and Ryan Guggenberger; Kevin (fiancee, Molly Griffin), Blake and Kayla Krey; and Ashlea, Dustin and Jake Schramel. He is also survived by two sisters, Lorraine (Donald) Doty of Tulsa, OK and Loretta Youngberg of Cedar Falls, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother, Vernon, and brother-in-law, Bruce Youngberg.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Redeemer Lutheran Church, Quiet Oaks Hospice House and Respite Care, CentraCare Home Care and Hospice, SCSU Environmental and Technological Studies or charity of choice.
