Sylvester “Buster” J. Weiman, age 87, St. Cloud, MN, died Tuesday, May 12, 2015.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, May 16, 2015 at 10:00 AM at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, St. Cloud, MN. Visitation will be Friday, May 15, 2015 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Waite Park Amercian Legion Post #428 prayer service at 6:00 PM Friday at the funeral home. Entombment, with full military honors, will be in Assumption Cemetery, St. Cloud, MN.
Buster was born March 25, 1928 in St. Cloud, MN to William and Mary (Saatzer) Weiman. He graduated from St. Cloud Technical High School in 1946 and then joined the United States Navy. Buster served for two years in California and two years in Guam. He was discharged in March of 1950. Buster was recalled during the Korean Conflict and served 15 months in Trinidad. On September 13, 1952 Buster was united in marriage to Doris Brunkow in St. Cloud, MN. The couple built their home in 1954 and lived there all their married life. He was employed by Great Northern Car Shops, retiring in 1986. Buster was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Waite Park American Legion Post # 428, St. Cloud Eagles Aerie #622 and NARVE. He was a former charter member of the Waite Park Rifle Club. Buster loved to hunt. He was still duck hunting when he was 85. Buster also liked all sports including golfing (which he took up after retiring) and bowling. Some of his happiest times were spent in his shop making “stuff” or just tinkering. He saved everything and was always happy to have friends and family scour his pipe pile and junk pile. Buster held happy hour every afternoon and always welcomed family and friends. He enjoyed telling stores, and it didn’t matter that we had all heard them many times. One of the funniest being when he and a fellow deer hunter got food poisoning out in the woods while hunting.
