     John E. Nelsen, age 55, St. Cloud, MN died Wednesday, February 2, 2005 in Elk River, MN.
     A celebration of John’s life will be Tuesday, February 8, 2005 at 11:00 AM at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, St. Cloud, MN. Rev. Gary Berg will officiate. Visitation will be Monday, February 7, 2005 from 4 to 8 PM at Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. VFW Post #428 prayer service will be at 6:00 PM Monday at the funeral home followed by the Eagles Aerie #622 prayer service at 6:30 PM. Burial will be at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls, MN.
     John was born September 2, 1949 in St. Cloud, MN to Nels P. and Margaret (Jacobsen) Nelsen. He was married to Cindy Scoles from November 16, 1976 to 1993. John worked as an electrical technician for Great River Energy for 18 years. He served in the United States Navy for over 22 years. John was a life member of St. Cloud VFW Post #428, and a member of the St. Cloud Eagles Aerie #622, Elk River American Legion Post #112, and the Naval Enlisted Reserve Association.
     Survivors include son, Michael Nelsen (fiancé Kelly Tvrdik) of St. Cloud, MN; daughter, Shannon Nelsen of St. Cloud, MN; sister, Karen (Steven) Nelsen-Huss of St. Cloud, MN; two grandsons, Anthony and Alex; and nephews, Nate and Chris Huss. John also is survived by his fiancé, Marlene Kuhn of St. Cloud, MN.
     John was preceded in death by his parents.
