Burial will be in North Star Cemetery, St. Cloud, MN. Funeral arrangements were made by Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN.
Alice Lillian (Johnsrud) Goulson was born on July 4, 1923 in Montevideo, Minnesota to Martin and Martha (Hveem) Johnsrud. Alice was baptized at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo and confirmed at Baxter Lutheran Church near Montevideo. She graduated from Montevideo High School and St. Cloud State Normal School. She taught in rural schools in Lac Qui Parle County for four years until she married Helge Thorfin Goulson on July 7, 1946 at Baxter Lutheran Church. For thirty-four years Helge and Alice farmed in Lac Qui Parle County, near Montevideo and near Madison, Minnesota before retiring to St. Cloud, Minnesota. She taught Sunday School classes for fourteen years, was an adult leader in 4-H, participated in Ladies' Aid and Circle, was a member of Homemakers and later a honorary member of Delta Kappa Gamma, and a member of the Sons of Norway where she held numerous positions. In retirement she cared for her grandchildren, read, and did numerous handwork projects. Alice enjoyed baking and quilting with her granddaughter and relied on her grandson for all those “special” maintenance projects. One of her last greatest pleasures was to meet and hold her great granddaughter.
She is survived by two daughters-Phyllis and husband Barry VanBuren of Clearwater, Minnesota, Ramona and husband Dale Peterson of St. Paul, two grandchildren-Princesa VanBuren Hansen and husband Brad of Forest Lake, Minnesota and Barón VanBuren of St. Cloud, Minnesota, one great granddaughter-Laura Madison Hansen, and two brothers-Reuben of Dawson Minnesota and Thomas of Waterloo, Wisconsin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Helge on February 18, 2012, her parents, and brothers Melvin, Marvin and David.
The family extends special thanks to the staff, chaplains and friends at Country Manor for their compassionate and respectful care of Alice.
Memorials are preferred to St. Cloud Hospital Hospice in lieu of flowers.
