    Irene L. Niehaus, age 89, Sauk Rapids, MN died Monday, January 10, 2005 at Ridgeview Place, Sauk Rapids, MN.
     Funeral services will be Friday, January 14, 2005 at 1:00 PM at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, St. Cloud, MN. Rev. David Nelson will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday, January 13, 2005 from 4 to 7 PM at Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN.
     Irene Niehaus was born July 18, 1915 in St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin to Andrew P. Jensen and Randi (Hyland) Jensen. As a young girl, Irene moved with her family to Doland, South Dakota where her family owned the bakery and helped build the Lutheran church. Later she moved to Geneva, Minnesota where she met and married Calvin Niehaus of Albert Lea, MN. In 1960 they moved to St. Cloud. Irene worked as a waitress for Simonson’s Cafe and later in food service at Garvey Commons at SCSU. After her retirement Irene and Calvin moved to Cold Spring, MN and later to St. Augusta, MN. Irene was a member of Missouri Synod Lutheran churches throughout her life. She was a graduate of Bethany College of Business, labor leader at Garvey Commons, member of Women’s Bowling Association, and recently The Red Hat Society. She enjoyed playing cards, board games, bingo, and going to the casino.
     Irene is survived by her daughters, Donna (William) Mickelsen of Edmond, OK, Geri (Loren) Johnson of Coon Rapids, MN, Sarah Livingston of Waite Park, MN; son, Mike (Kathy) Niehaus of St. Cloud, MN; brother-in-law, Don Behrends of Rochester, MN; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other family.
     She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Calvin on March 1, 1996, son, John on November 30, 2002; grandson, Terry Erickson on January 27, 1992, infant brother, Andrew LeVern Jensen, sisters, Ione Behrends and Evelyn Ellis, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Karl and Stella Niehaus, Lucille and Bill O’Daffer, Lillian and Miler Nelson, Opal and Earl Rafdal.
     Irene’s family wishes to thank the staff and friends at Ridgeview Place, also the Monday-Friday Poker Group, and The Red Hat Society group for your care, concern, laughter and friendship you shared with our mother.
