     Barbara Jean Gilbert, age 85, Cold Spring, MN died Thursday, July 3, 2014 at the St. Cloud Hospital, St. Cloud, MN.
     Funeral services will be Thursday, July 10, 2014 at 10:30 AM at the Sacred Heart Chapel, St. Benedict’s Monastery, St. Joseph, MN. Burial will be in the monastery cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday, July 9, 2014 from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at Assumption Chapel, Cold Spring, MN and one hour prior to the service at the monastery on Thursday. Funeral arrangements made by Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN.
     Barbara was born January 2, 1929 in Blair, Nebraska to Roy and Flossie (Lycan) Dolan. She married Marshall Gilbert on August 7, 1949 in Blair, Nebraska. Barbara joined the Catholic church in 1976 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She was a very active member of the churches to which she belonged. Barbara was a Secular Order Carmelite who took her definitive promise on December 18, 2002 at Carmelite Convent in Sioux City, Iowa. She moved to Cold Spring in July of 2011. Barbara loved gardening, reading, her spiritual studies and her beloved dog Charlie. She loved her family, especially her granddaughters and great grandchildren.
     Survivors include her daughters, S. Julianne Gilbert, OSB of St. Joseph, MN; Christianne (Steve) Jacobsen of Springfield, SD; three granddaughters; two great grandchildren and her Carmelite Community.
     She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marshall on March 20, 1984; one brother and three sisters.
     Memorials are preferred.
