Jean Margaret “Ma” Veenstra, age 87, St. Cloud, MN, died Monday, June 2, 2014 at St. Benedict’s Senior Community, St. Cloud, MN.
Funeral services will be Friday, June 6, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, St. Cloud, MN. Visitation will be Thursday, June 5, 2014 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN at a later date.
Jean was born March 16, 1927 in St. Cloud, MN to Ambrose and Martha (Glander) McDonald. She married Thomas DelRoy Veenstra on January 21, 1950 in St. Cloud, MN. Jean was employed as a salesperson for Heberger’s and partime in the printing industry. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, served as an election judge, a school census taker and Cub Scout leader. Jean was also a member and past president of the Garfield School PTA. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Being a McDonald and being born so close to St. Patrick’s Day, Jean participated in many years of Irish celebrations.
Survivors include sons, Bradley (LuAnn) Veenstra of St. Cloud, MN; Steve (Carol) Howe-Veenstra of St. Cloud, MN; four grandchildren, Phillip Veenstra, Sara (Chad) Balfanz, Lisa (Nick Mueller) Veenstra and Ryan (Christine Palmer) Howe-Veenstra; and two great grandchildren, Tyler Veenstra and Sydney Balfanz.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Thomas on January 11, 1991, brother, Kenneth “Mac” McDonald and sisters, Norma Anderson, Ruth “Archie” McDonald, and Viola “Mickey” Schmidt.
The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff of St. Benedict’s Senior Community for the love and care they provided for their mom, Jean.
