Bob was born October 3, 1932 in Rice Lake, WI to Casper and Verna (Tucker) Olsen. He married E. LaVonne “Vonnie” Engesser on February 21, 1953 in St. Peter, MN. Bob served in the US Navy from 1951 - 1955. He served two tours aboard the aircraft carrier USS Essex during the Korean War. After discharge from the Navy he earned a Bachelors of Science Degree from Mankato State University in 1958 and a Masters of Science Degree in 1964. Bob taught in the Albert Lea Public School System from 1958-1964. He moved his family to St. Cloud in July of 1964. Bob was a School Counselor at South Jr. High School from 1964-1972; he then transferred to the St. Cloud Technical College as a Counselor in the Admission and Counseling Office, retiring on May 31, 1991. Bob was a life member of Minnesota Education Association and the National Education Association, Life member of VFW Post 428, member of the Sons of Norway, Education Minnesota Retired, and Salem Lutheran Church.
Bob enjoyed traveling, especially to Norway and Mexico. Time at the cabin with his family was treasured, where he could feed the ducks, fish, hunt and make the best egg coffee around. At home he was happy spending time in his porch, watching and feeding the birds and squirrels.
Bob’s love was his wife of 60 years, Vonnie. He also loved spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren who were his pride and joy. Bob had a smile for everyone, a love for all children, and a witty sense of humor. He was a kind and gentle soul, and our memories of him will always be cherished.
