Ted “Big T” Norman Layne, age 92, Sauk Rapids, MN, died Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at Ridgeview Assisted Living, Sauk Rapids, MN.
Funeral services will be Saturday, June 1, 2013 at 4:00 PM at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, St. Cloud, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls, MN at a later date. Funeral arrangements were made by Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN.
Ted was born January 3, 1921 in Benton County, Minnesota to Colin and Alma (Petee) Hyslop. He served as a Seabee in the United States Navy during World War II from 1942 to 1945. Ted married Rhea Mary Engel on October 31, 1949 in Mankato, MN. He was employed by Northwestern Bell Telephone. Ted was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Telephone Pioneers of America, and the St. Cloud VFW Post #428. He enjoyed all types of sports, but especially enjoyed bowling and was an avid Gopher fan. Ted spent the last ten years as a resident of the Ridgeview community, where he made many friends. He actively participated in many activities at Ridgeview, but especially enjoyed playing Bingo. Ted felt a special pride for all his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include sons, Gary (Colleen) Layne of St. Cloud, MN; and Keith (Kristine) Layne of Aitkin, MN; five grandchildren, Rob (Stacy Asheim) Layne of Avon, MN; Michael (Alex) Layne of Lafayette, IN; Phillip (Sarah) Layne of St. Cloud, MN: Jonathan Layne of Newport Beach, CA; and Kelsi (Jeff) Plattner of Plymouth MN; and four great grandchildren, Raija, Caylie, Mason and Jayden Layne.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Rhea on September 1, 1996, grandson, Joseph Layne on February 16, 2006, five brothers, Byron, Thomas, Edgar, Robert and Marvin and four sisters, Ruth, Beverly, Alice and Ella.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren and great grandchildren. |
