     Kenneth Edson Fairbanks, age 72, St. Cloud, MN formerly of North Branch, Rosemount and Detroit Lakes, MN, died Tuesday, November 16, 2004 at his home.
     Funeral services will be Friday, November 19, 2004 at 10:00 AM Bethlehem Lutheran Church, St. Cloud, MN. A time for sharing will be after the service at church on Friday. Burial will be in Rosemount Cemetery, Rosemount, MN. Funeral arrangements were made by Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN.
     Kenneth Fairbanks was born February 20, 1932 in North Branch, MN to Edson and Violet (Swanson) Fairbanks. He was a graduate of North Branch High School and St. Paul Vocational School of McAlister College. He married Walene Maturen on August 12, 1955 in Rosemount, MN. Kenneth was a master plumber and owner of a plumbing and heating business in Detroit Lakes, MN. He also owned a resort at Cotton Lake in Minnesota. Kenneth was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, St. Cloud, MN, member and past president of Detroit Lakes Area Resort Assoc., member and past president of Cotton Lake Assoc., board member of Detroit Lakes Boys and Girls Club, and an active and life member of Detroit Lakes VFW. He was also an active member of the Eagles, Elks, Optimist Club, Minnesota Deer Hunters Assoc. and Ducks Unlimited. Kenneth proudly served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean Conflict. He received many citations including the United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Ribbon with two bronze service stars, National Defense Service Medal and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation. Kenneth enjoyed playing cards, hunting, boating, water skiing, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
     Survivors include his wife, Walene of St. Cloud, MN; sons and daughters, Craig (Carol Cumber) Fairbanks of Brookings, SD; Clark Fairbanks and friend Kathy Kruse of Gillette, WY; Cynthia (William) Sazama of Perham, MN; Carla (Alan) Nicholson of Cokato, MN; ten grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Gerald (Dolores) Fairbanks of North Branch, MN; Eugene (Shirley) Fairbanks of Forest Lake, MN; Melvin (Jeanine) Fairbanks of Harris, MN; Dale (Sharon) Fairbanks of North Branch, MN; Delmer (Jean) Fairbanks of North Branch, MN; James (Patricia) Fairbanks of Harris, MN; Joyce (Orman) Beecher of North Branch, MN; and Janice (Jerome) Nelson of North Branch, MN.
     He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Christian Fairbanks.
