     Helmi M. Laitinen, age 91, Cold Spring, MN died Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Assumption Home, Cold Spring, MN.
     A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Benson Funeral Home Chapel, St. Cloud, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday, February 9, 2013. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Two Harbors, MN.
     Helmi was born on December 4, 1921 in Menahga, MN to John & Annie (Kinnunen) Lake. She married Rudolph Laitinen on January 1, 1942 in Sebeka, MN. During World War II, Helmi went to Oregon to work in the shipyards as a welder. Helmi was active in Church Organizations, Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary, Election Clerk and TOPS.
     Helmi enjoyed knitting slippers, singing at church and spending time with her family. She was also an avid berry picker, wine maker and ultimate Twins fan. After retirement, she and Rudie traveled extensively.
     Survivors include her son and daughters, Milo (Jill) Laitinen of Menahga, MN; Diane (Galen) Brouse of St. Cloud, MN; Darlene (John) Brunsberg of Cold Spring, MN; Gail (Richard) Larson of Esko, MN; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Leroy (June) Lake of Menahga, MN; Raymond (Claudine) Lake of Strafford, MO; Mayme Crackel of Monticello, MN; and Leila Stansbury of Park Rapids, MN.
     She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rudolph on January 14, 2001; and son, Dale R. Laitinen July of 1998; four brothers, Andrew, Jalmer, Henry and Carl; and one sister, Ellen.
     Memorials are preferred to the Assumption Home, Cold Spring, MN.
     The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the Assumption Home staff for the wonderful service and respectful care given to Helmi during her stay.
