Arnold “Arnie” Joseph Mages, age 76, St. Cloud, MN died Tuesday, December 25, 2012 at his daughter’s home in Lino Lakes, MN, with his family present.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 1:00 PM at the Benson Funeral Home Chapel, St. Cloud, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
Arnie was born June 13, 1936 in Morgan, MN to Ben and Agnes (Tauer) Mages. He married Sandra J. Cummings on April 4, 1959 in Buffalo, MN. Arnie taught at Buffalo and then Lake City, MN, where he started the wrestling program in 1960. In 1964, Arnie began teaching history at St. Cloud Technical High School until his retirement in 1994. He also served as assistant wrestling coach during his tenure at Tech High School. Arnie was active with the Student Council and was presented the Student Leadership Award by the National Student Council Association.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Mages of St. Cloud, MN; sons and daughters, Tim (Julie) Mages of St. Cloud, MN; Kirk Mages of St. Cloud, MN; Stacy Gerding of Lino Lakes, MN; Shannon Mages-Jensen of Maple Grove, MN; brothers and sister, Cletus (JoAnn) Mages of Lakewood, CO; Patrick (Pam) Schwab of Willmar, MN; James (Linda) Schwab of Comfrey, MN: Arlene (Tom) Moede of Welches, OR; sister-in-law, Pat Mages of Stevens Point, WI; nine grandchildren, Dan, Aubree, Reed, Tony, Jaycie, Robbie, Jacob Arnold, Jordyn and Jack; and one great grandchild, Maddison.
He was preceded in death by his parents, step father, Edward Schwab, brother, Gilbert, and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Archie and Ethel Cummings.
