WALTER J. CELESTIN, 63

January 12, 1949 ~ November 13, 2012
On Tuesday, November 13, 2012, Gunnery Sergeant Walter J. Celestin departed this earthly world and entered the Kingdom of Heaven to rejoice in the house of the Lord.
The first born of Willie and Edna Celestin, he was born on January 12, 1949. He was baptized at St. James Catholic Church and married to Mary Celestin. Walter is the father of three children, Tevis Celestin (Synica), Reginald Celestin, Quentin Celestin and was the proud grandfather of four grandchildren, LaQuan, Janie, Syneeka and Quintin, Jr. He is survived by siblings, Brettaiene, Andrew (Joyce), Michael (Trina), Teresa (Redell), Miguelle, Colleen (Kevin), Gretchen (David), Faith (Floyd), and brother-in-law Eddie Schonberg, Jr., aunts, uncles, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He is proceeded in death by his father and mother, Willie and Edna Celestin, sister, Shavonne C. Schonberg, brother-in-law, Stanley Meno, great niece, Kensey Olivia Joseph, a host of uncles, aunts, and cousins, and the many Marines that have gone before him.
Walter was a father, husband, brother, friend and Marine. He prided himself on family, commitment, leadership, and loyalty. Walter joined the Untied States Marine Corps at the young age of 18, leaving behind family and friends for a greater purpose of serving God, country and fellow man. As a Marine, Walter lived with purpose, honor, loyalty, dedication to God and Country, the Corps, Family, and Self.
Walter was a member of the United States Marine Corps, serving 23 years of active duty and 7 years as a member of the United States Marine Corps Reserves. After a total of 30 years of service to his country, Walter retired to Minnesota and enjoyed a veteran’s life, involved in the ongoing efforts for the continued support of all members and veterans of the United States Armed Forces. |
